Steering & Suspension

Your steering and suspension systems are all about vehicle safety.  If you haven’t thought of your steering wheel as a piece of safety equipment before, imagine driving down the road at 70 miles per hour and having it suddenly become difficult to turn.  It can happen.  Regular vehilce maintenance is one key to prevention.  Most of us will never see all the important parts that provide the smooth ride and stable handling enjoyed in our car, SUV and/or pick-up.  Here is a quick list of the major components that make up the steering and suspension of your vehicle:

  • Tires
  • Shocks
  • Struts
  • Ball Joints
  • Anti-roll bars
  • Control arms
  • Bushings

How do you recognize a potential problem with your steering & suspension?

  • Do you hear knocking, clunking, our pounding noises while driving over railroad tracks or bumps?
  • Does the vehicle pull to the right or left, or does your vehicle seem to lean as you corner, or does your vehicle seem to bounce when traveling over bumps?
  • Is one corner of your vehicle sitting lower than the others?

With any of these changes in your vehicle handling tell your service advisor at your next oil change. While the vehicle is up in the air they can inspect your steering and suspension components for possible damage, wear, or other signs of failure.
